ERIC MORECAMBE STATUE, MORECAMBE : SCAN THE WORLD PROJECT : IMAKR.COM
I worked as a photographer for imakr.com, helping to produce 3D scans of statues and landmarks for their ambitious ‘Scan The World’ project. Their aim is to scan, archive and 3D print as many sculptures and monuments around the globe as possible, to create an accessible platform for education and digital archiving. To teach people about the sculptures themselves and the technology used to capture them, and the digitized preservation of artwork are incredibly relevant topics in today’s world.
My first assignments was to scan the Eric Morecambe statue in Morecambe. This involved me capturing around 80 images of the statue and uploading them to the design team at imakr.com, who then used specialist software to produce the 3D scan images displayed above. The next step is for their design team to ‘clean-up’ the image before it is fed into the 3D printer… watch this space for more images of the finished article.
